1 Enoch 108

1 Enoch 108

Verse 9
“Who, since they came into being, longed not after earthly food, but regarded everything as a passing breath and lived accordingly, and the Lord tried them much, and their spirits were found pure so that they should bless His name.”

Living according to the idea that this life is but a mere breath engenders a spirit that does not long after earthly desires (the needs to satisfy your instinctual desires [the flesh]).

Psalms 119

Verse 72
“I would rather obey you than to have a thousand pieces of silver and gold.”: because obedience is that much more valuable, and brings that much more joy.

Psalms 112

Verse 7

“Bad news won’t bother them; they have decided to trust the Lord.”

Following God does not mean that you will not have problems; following God means that you will not mind your problems anymore… For one or many out of all the reasons that God has given you to be happy.

Psalms 107

Verse 26
“You were tossed to the sky and to the ocean depths, until things looked so bad that you lost your courage.”

The ocean depths, the deeper you sink, the less hope you have.  What causes this hopelessness?: the thought that you are surrounded by something that end up taking your life; this thing becomes bigger and bigger.  Your doom is so great around you, and it is slowly becoming great.  But it is just water… could it be that hopelessness comes from the fact that the environment is incompatible with your organism?  What if it wasn’t?  Then this event would not be daunting anymore, it would just be scenery.  Just like you are now covered and surrounded by air; you are not as close to death as you think; you would open your eyes and notice the trees around you, the structures, the light… You notice; there is no pain.  There is no violation, as you feel the salt water fill your lungs, as you feel your body running out of oxygen, as you feel your mind losing consciousness and function due to lack of oxygen.  There is no violation, as you feel yourself being engulfed by an inability to feel, to think… just enjoy the scenery, enjoy the ride.

Psalms 105

Psalms 105:19
“Joseph remained a slave until his own words had come true, and the Lord had finished testing him.”

Joseph in the well, Joseph sold, Joseph as a slave, Joseph in prison.  We always see Joseph as a man of God and assume that he never had any difficulties.  The bible just blows over these events and makes them seem like they were easy for Joseph.  But this verse says that this was a trial for Joseph, he was being tested.  It was difficult to turn down Potiphar’s wife, it was even more difficult to go to prison for it.  As difficult as they would be for us, they were difficult to him.  People think that saints have it easy; but they are not saints because it is easy for them, they are saints because they overcame.  God understands your troubles, Joseph experienced the same difficulties you have, God also understands these challenges can be accomplished, and how capable you are to bear His name.
